Razorscale is the third boss encounter in Ulduar. It is an Ironbound proto-drake that flies over the Razorscale's Aerie, across from the Colossal Forge. It seems Razorscale is the product of Loken's plans with Veranus judging by the names of several items that drop off of her.
Abilities
* Fireball – inflicts 11,000 to 12,000 fire damage to an enemy during phase 1.
* Wing Buffet – is a 1.5-second cast that Razorscale uses after breaking its chains during phase 1 (when it is above 50% health) to knock players back in a 35-yard radius.
* Flame Breath – is a 2.5-second cast that inflicts 13,125 to 16,875 Fire damage to players in a cone in front of Razorscale. Used after breaking its chains in phase 1, and throughout phase 2 (top aggro is targeted).
* Flame Buffet – increases the Fire damage a player takes by 1,000 for 1 minute during phase 2.
* Devouring Flame – spits a Lava Bomb at a player, inflicting 6,013 to 6,987 Fire damage and dealing an additional 6,013 to 6,987 Fire damage every second to anyone staying within 6 yards of the explosion. This effect lasts for 25 seconds. This effect lasts for 25 secs. Used in both phases; this is only fired at the tank in phase 2.
* Fuse Armor – reduces the armor, attack, and movement speed of an enemy by 20% for 20 seconds. Stacks up to 5 times. Only used on the tank in phase 2; must be countered by taunting with a different tank.
* Berserk – increases Razorscale's attack speed by 150% and all damage it deals by 900% for 30 min. Razorscale gains this debuff after 8-10 minutes.
Strategy
Phase 1 - Razorscale in the Air
Split the Raid into 2 groups, just like you would do for Gothik in Naxxaramas. Group 1 takes the left side and Group 2 takes the right side. It is recommended to stack the groups right on the drill machines.
- Reason 1
Razorscale only casts Devouring Flame directly below her. Her flight path is around the circle texture on the ground. So 95% of the time, the Devouring Flame will be inside the circle or on its edge. So if both groups stay out of the center, no one ever gets hit. Also only 2 Devouring Flames are active ever.
- Reason 2
It results in faster add pick up for tanks. Your main tank should also pick up the Sentinel add that spawns in the center on some waves as he hits the hardest. It is possible to stun him to stop the Whirl Wind.
DPS should focus on the adds and any Sentinels once picked up by a tank.
Healers need to heal the main tank and off tank plus raid. No one should take damage from Devouring Flame.
Phase 2 - Razorscale Pinned on the Ground
Tanks should take on any remaining adds.
DPS should change to the boss and blow cooldowns at this point. You need to DPS to the sides or back of the boss to avoid the Flame Breath. If a Sentinel is still alive, then kill it quick.
Healers can just heal the tanks and regenerate some mana.
At the end of this phase your aiming for 25% damage done on the boss. However, you also want to avoid the Flame Breath. After the Flame Breath run away from the boss to avoid the Wing Buffet. Other option is to have a mage Slow Fall everyone prior to the Wing Buffet, but running out is easy enough.
We are back to Phase 1 and 2 until the boss is at 50% HP.
Phase 3 - Ground
The tank needs to face the boss away from the raid and start a kiting motion like Grobbulus in Naxxaramas. Every 20 or so seconds, Razorscale casts Devouring Flame under herself and the tank needs to move her.
DPS need to focus on keeping to the rear end of Razorscale. However, avoid walking into the Devouring Flame. All melee should attack at her side near her rear leg so they don't walk face first into a Devouring Flame. Try not to be near her front to avoid the Flame Breath and a unconfirmed cleave.
Healers need to keep the main tank up as he is getting a stacking debuff increasing fire damage by 1000. Once this is stacked to many times you might want the off tank to take over as 10 stacks is 10,000 extra damage. She still Fireballs randomly for 7k during this part so raid heals are also needed.
